Out with the school fun, in with the summer fun!

Max just finished his last day of SECOND GRADE yesterday {tear!}  I don't know how it is possible that they are both growing up so fast, but it is.  Moms were all abuzz yesterday afternoon about what everyone's plans were for the summer but, honestly, I feel like we've been all over summer for a while now.  My class was over the first week of May, and we have had plenty of nice warm weather to get us outside and in to all of our summer activities early.  I plan to post about all of that, but wanted to take a sec to post some end of the year pictures.  Both Max and Cate were so lucky to have amazing teachers and friends this year - so much so that I fear a whole summer with me kind of pales in comparison to what they had going on their classrooms every week at school ...  Oh well, a whole summer with me it is!!! ;D

One of Cate's most favorite things about school this year was the share bag.  She lived for it!  When someone gets the share bag, they not only get to take it home and fill it with things that start with a certain letter.  They get to bring it back and present all of their findings to class AND they get to be the class leader for the whole day!  Cate absolutely loved the whole process, and did an amazing job collecting items and presenting them to the class.  Her teacher took this cellphone video of her last time with the share bag when she did the letter Z:

Love it!

Second grade boys aren't much for having their pictures taken, but I did manage to get one of Max with his wonderful teacher, Mrs. Poling.

Max has brought home a TON of stuff over the past few weeks - cool art, little stories, etc. (all of which will require some scanning).  He also brought home a stellar report card, yet again!  ... And then there was this:

... his STAR reading assessment, which indicates that he reads at the level of an average 10th grader after completing 8 months of the 10th grade.  Mmmmmmmkaaaayyyyyyy .... What exactly does one do with a 2nd grader who reads at this level???  Seriously, if you know, please speak up.  I and the teachers / principals of Rocky Hill Elementary would like to know.

Max, on the other, is content to leave this question alone and just keep reading.  (He's in the middle of the Hunger Games series right now which I haven't even read)

Max also made some great friends in his class this year!  Recently, all of the guys in the class got together and went to see The Avengers.  It was a 2 1/2 hour action thriller and they loved every. second of it!  Max can't wait to have all of these guys over for his upcoming Pokemon birthday party! Plans are currently in the works ... will keep ya' posted!

Next on the docket is a Memorial Day campout with friends in the mountains of North Carolina.  So much fun!
