Here are a couple of new words that I could stand NOT to know:
conjunctivitis (more commonly known as "pink eye"): We have become all too familiar with this nasty little infection. This week, Max contracted pink eye for the second time this year (thanks pre-school!) Treatment involves 3-4 eye drops per day for 7 - 10 days -- each one an epic struggle around here.
roseola: This one is new, and absolutely insidious! It involves 3 days of an inexplicable and extremely high fever (104-105 degrees!) during which you rack your brain as to what could possibly be causing this crazy high fever, followed by the rapid disappearance of the fever and the appearance of little red speckles all over the body. Once the speckles appear the roseola virus is gone and the baby is not contagious. But here's the rub: it's only when the speckles appear that the roseola virus can be diagnosed. Diabolical!
We gained firsthand experience with both this week, but you'll be happy to know that we have emerged triumphant and that both kids are very much on the mend! Max's eyes are all clear and he is just finishing out his prescription. Cate is feverless and speckled. Hooray!
