Max is as "Max" as ever these days! Happy, thoughtful, confident, professorial, corny (those are the first few words that came to mind ;)) He has some giant new front teeth now & (still) the kind of walk that ought always be accompanied by the intro to "Staying Alive".Max happy reading in his bed.He does this every night.love.
He continues to WOW adults with his intellect and his ability to articulate himself in ways far beyond his years. In fact, this happened just the other night when we took the kids to a gathering of some friends where they were really the only kids there. I told Max to just bring his DS on account of the fact that it would be mostly adults and he might be bored. Well, wouldn't you know, Max ended up being the complete star of the show that night! As it turned out, our friend's husband is an extremely talented engineer. (We found this out when he showed us the elevator that he had built in their garage!) He and Max struck it up, and before you know it they both had their volt meters out and all anybody was talking about was how ridiculously amazing our son is!
Such occurrences are hardly out of the norm for Mr. Max. Fact of the matter is, the kid makes an impression. I don't think I ever posted his end-of-the-year card to his teacher, Mrs. Goodwin, but it shows what I mean:
Another thing I meant to post at the end of last school year that I think says a lot about Max - this signature page signed by his peers in his first grade class:
A funny, kind, smart, geenus ... yep! That about says it!
I can't even believe I'm saying this, but Max is headed for the second grade TOMORROW!!! As much as I know this is going to be a FANTASTIC year for Max, I think it also has the potential to be a little bit tough, just because Max is getting to the point in school where everybody wants to be the same as everybody else. Any one who knows Max knows that Max will never be the same as everybody else, precisely because Max is extraordinary. I just hope that he knows as he goes into this year (and all the others) that it's a great thing to be extraordinary, even when it's difficult. So few are blessed in this way! In all likelihood, though, Max will breeze right through this year just as he did the last. He is just so friendly and easy to talk to that kids just tend to like him for who he is - Max (or as he wrote on his notebook that he is taking to school tomorrow 'Dr. Max Allen Harper, 2nd Grader')
Well, I'd better get to bed. Tomorrow morning is going to come EARLY!
Wish us luck!
xo
