Saturday night we had a few friends over to help us celebrate Cate's first. Having learned from Max's first that it is a bad idea to have 15 one-year-olds over for a first birthday bash, I thought I would keep it simple, order some food, put on some music, and have a semi-adult party in Cate's honor on the main floor, while the kids played in the playroom downstairs. That is how it went ... in my head. In reality, the timeless saying proved true: Where there are cupcakes and a Wii, there, too, will your children be (You guys know that one?) So, the playroom stayed empty the entire night, while the kids (and here I'm referring to the sugared-up pack of 4-year-old boys -- Max, Quinn, and Evan) ran wild all over the house! While there was a bit more chaos than expected, everyone ended up having a great time running around, playing Wii, and rolling in the ball pit, and Cate's second year is off to a great start!! As you can see from the pictures, Cate has wasted no time in turning into a big girl. She started walking this week!

Max made the cupcakes -- vanilla with strawberry icing -- and had the idea to spell out "Happy Birthday Cate" with them. What a sweet big brother!
